Spring Symbolizes renewal and a fresh start. With the days getting longer and the weather finally starting to warm it’s the perfect time to give your space a spring refresh. Spring cleaning typically gets all of the attention but there are a lot ways to update your space to spark some creativity, bring in life and light and get ready for the warmer weather and all the optimism and excitement that brings.
The best part is you don’t have to completely redo your space or spend a lot of money to do so. With just a few simple updates and additions you can make your space feel fresh, new and improved.
In this post I’m sharing 5 tips to freshen up your home for spring.
1. Spring Cleaning
kick off your spring refresh with some spring cleaning. Tidying and cleaning your space can really make your place feel like new. Something about a clean home makes me feel happy and calm. This is a great time to clean the places you typically don’t get to often like:
- Clean the oven and microwave
- Clean your pantry of crumbs and clear out any expired foods
- Vacuum under your bed and under furniture
- Washing your windows
- Clean the dishwasher and the dishwasher drain
- Clean your baseboards
- Wipe down your walls
- Dust your fans and ceiling fixtures
- Run a clean cycle on your washing machine
- Clean decorative pillows and throw blankets
- Steam clean your couch
I’m sure there are plenty of other things to add but this is a great list to get you started.
If you’re also read this book, on cleaning when we first moved into our house and it had some handy tips and tricks. The writer was also a comedian so I got some laughs out of it too.
2. Declutter and Organize
After you’ve gone through and cleaned now is the perfect time to organize and declutter. Taking the time to organize can make life a lot easier and can have a huge impact. I mean there’s a reason people hire professional organizers, right? A little order in an often chaotic schedule can bring some zen and control to life. First, I like to start with decluttering and purging the things I don’t want or no longer have a use for. Then I think about how I would arrange the space to make it more functional. I think through things I reach for often and put those lot in an accessible location and try to arrange things so that I can clearly see them so I don’t forget about them. It sounds pretty simple but it can get to be time consuming so I like to focus on areas of highest need.
For me that’s my closet, medicine cabinet and pantry. For my closet I like to swap out some of my winter pieces and bring out my spring coats and shoes. This also helps me take inventory of my wardrobe so I know what I have and can think through if there are any pieces I need to add or donate. For my medicine cabinet I like to do a general clean up since this is used daily it’s a good time to wipe things down, look at the expiration on your products, clean your makeup brushes, etc. The same thing goes for the pantry. I like to clean things out, take stock of what I have and reorganize in a way that makes sense and I can easily see the items I either use frequently or should be eating more of like healthy snacks.
Here’s some great organizers for your closet that I found on amazon.
- Clear Shelf Dividers
- Smart Storage Hangers
- Vacuum Storage for Out of Season Clothes
- Arm Hook – To lay your clothes out for the day
- Seagrass Storage Baskets
3. Add Some Greenery
Flowers and greenery really represent Spring to me. With the flowers finally starting to bloom again it’s a great time to add in some flowers or plants to bring some life back into your space. I have a few plants now and I always get so much joy from taking care of them and seeing new buds start to sprout. As it turns out plants actually do make you happier. On top of that they help filter out toxins in the air. I’m also planning to buy lots of tulips this season as a little treat to myself. I love fresh tulips and they come in so many colors they can add a lot of character and joy.
4. Rearrange Your Space
I don’t know about you but when I was a kid I loved to rearrange the furniture in my room and try out different layouts. All the furniture was the same but something about putting something in different spot brought a new energy. If you’re looking to liven up your space and bring in that feeling of newness try moving your furniture around or try moving some plants or art into a new area and see how it suits you in this new season.
5. Refresh Your Mindset
Aside from all the external and physical spring refresh items it’s also a great time to do a mental refresh. The months are flying by and it’s almost April. Sometimes life is just go, go, go and we can lose sight of some of our goals or intentions we set for this year. I encourage you to take some time to revisit those goals and take inventory of what’s working and what’s not. Once you take time to think through this you can replace the routines, mindsets, habits that are no longer serving you with new routines and habits that support a refreshed version of yourself.
I hope you enjoyed this post and it gave you some useful tips on how to refresh for the spring season.
