Spring can be challenging to dress for. The weather fluctuates from day to day and where I live the weather can swing 20 degrees within the same day. When I was working on curating pieces for spring fashion essentials I looked for staple pieces that were versatile and that you could easily mix and match. These essential pieces can work for everyday wear as well as the office or a night out.
The spring outfit essentials consist of two outerwear options, three pairs of pants, one dress, one skirt, two sweaters and two tops. This might seem like too few options but there’s so many ways you can wear these pieces. I also love the idea of having a having a more minimized wardrobe. Having a few staple items can take some of the guesswork out of getting dressed and really simplify your day. That said all the pieces are very polished and classy so they’re sure to impress wherever you go. I curated items from a variety of places that you’ve probably heard of like Everlane and Rouje and some new like Favorite Daughter.
The best part is all the pieces are under $300 with the blazer being the most expensive but with such timeless pieces these should last you for many seasons to come.
Below are 2023 spring outfit essentials I think every woman needs in her closet along with outfit ideas that you can create using the suggested pieces.
Trench Coat
If there is any wardrobe essential that can help you effortlessly navigate the transition from winter to spring it has to be the trench coat. Just like a cashmere sweater and a good pair of jeans I automatically reach for a trench coat in the spring and it’s an easy way to dress an outfit up and layer up when need be. I love the classic camel color and think it goes with almost everything.
I like the classic style of this H&M option and it’s a great affordable option.
Blazer
A blazer is another great piece that instantly dresses up your outfit. I can see this blazer from Favorite Daughter being worn so many different ways from formal to casual with a nice pair of jeans and a white shirt. I typically don’t gravitate towards pinstripes but I loved the navy color of this one and thought the color kept the pinstripes from being too harsh.
Cardigan
A nice cardigan is definitely an essential piece that nevers goes out of style. There are a variety of styles and options when it comes to cardigans but I opted for and more slim and delicate fit. I think this piece would look great with any of the pant and skirt options I curated.
White T-Shirt
There is something so effortless and cool about a crisp white t-shirt. I think a white tee is a great go to item to have in your wardrobe so it’s worth investing in a mid range option with a good shape and feel. Right now I’m loving baby tees with jeans so I opted for a cropped option here from Everlane. All the pants are mid to high waist so you’ll have just the right amount of midriff showing.
Tank Top
A tank top is another essential that you probably already have in your wardrobe. If you’re looking for another option here is another option. I like the light grey color and the ribbed texture which makes the piece a little sportier.
Striped Sweater
a classic striped sweater always adds an upscale flair to an outfit. I’m really liking the half-zip style of this sweater below from COS. This is a great option for some of the chillier spring days.
Sweetheart Neckline Sweater
A sweetheart neckline sweater can be casual or more formal and add a nice feminine and romantic touch to your outfit. This white sweater option is from And Other Stories
Jeans
I love to bust out my white jeans the second the weather warms up and while I don’t think skinny jeans are out of style I definitely prefer a straight leg cut for white jeans. I also found a nice pair of blue denim jeans from Rouje and these jeans are light enough for spring but dark enough and tailored enough that they don’t look too casual.
Black Trousers
Black Trousers are a staple and you’ll be able to wear these any season. These also pair well with all of the outwear and top options in this wardrobe.
Silk Skirt
Silky fabrics make every outfit look pricey. Whether you invest in real silk or go for a satin finish paired with a soft sweater a silk skirt is an easy way to elevate your ensemble.
Shoes and Accessories
For shoes I went with a white leather sneaker, a sling back heel and an open toed heeled sandals. I’m obsessed with the adidas samba sneakers. They’re the ultimate cool girl sneaker in my eyes and are both chic and comfortable. A heeled sandal adds a touch of elegance to your outfit and a slingback heel easily pairs with casual and formal outfits.
For purses I’m loving a short shoulder bag option right now.
