If you’re like me and ready to escape the sweaters and winter weather for sunshine and bikini I’ve got you covered. When I’m planning for a warm weather vacation I always look for resort wear looks that include breathable but elegant styles and items I can mix and match to try to avoid overpacking. In this post, I’m sharing what to pack for your beach vacation and the resort wear pieces I’m loving this year.
Some of the trends I’m still loving right now are rosettes and coastal cowgirl looks. I tried to find a few pieces that incorporated these trends as well as some classic capsule pieces that will never go out of style and can easily take you from spring break through end of summer. I also looked for a good mix of easy to wear casual pieces that you can wear shopping or at the beach as well as few elevated evening pieces for dinners and nights out.

What is Resort Wear?
You may associate resort attire with just swimsuit cover-ups and flip flops but resort wear is a broad category.
As a clothing style, resort wear can include a number of items that are stylish but low fuss and evoke ideas of travel to beachy locales.Within the resort category there a few sub categories such as resort casual, resort evening wear and formal resort attire.
- Resort casual is a relaxed dress code that includes style you can comfortably wear like a swimsuit coverups, shorts, tennis shoes and sandals.
- Resort evening wear may be required at some resorts for evenings and dinner and is often slightly more elevated than resort casual. You could meet the dress code with a casual dress or nice top with a skirt and sandals or heels.
- Formal Resort Attire can be tricky figuring out just what is is considered “formal” in a resort setting. Often required more for weddings or other special events, these looks are similar to what you would wear to a cocktail party. With this dress code you can opt for longer dress styles paired with a nice pair of heels but given the warmer setting try to opt for breathable and flowy fabrics.

Resort Wear Pieces I’m Eyeing this year
White pants | Linen swimsuit cover-up | Coral bikini top| Coral bikini bottom| White rosette bikini| Champagne Crochet top| Champagne Crochet Skirt| Cream dress| Pink dress| Crochet handbag| Pearl and gold earrings| sunglasses| Crochet cowboy hat | Navy Baseball cap| Cream and tan sandals| Crochet beach bag
Bikinis
Bikinis and swimsuits go without saying for a beach vacation. Here are some pieces that I’m eyeing.Rosettes are still very in in my opinion and I think this white bikini with the rosette detail on the top and bottom is sexy and fun. The best part about this swimsuit is it’s only $23. There’s also a ton of other colors if you’re looking for something other than white. The second bikini is a little pricier but the color and style are timeless and this will definitely care
Lightweight clothing
When it comes to choosing which clothes to pack for a beach vacation, less is more. I almost always find myself in comfortable, loose-fitting clothes that can be reworn throughout the weekend or week by the beach. So I like to bring oversized button down shirts and breathable linen pants I can wear to the beach or out and about.
Cover-ups
Throw a sarong or a long linen shirt over a bikini and your good to go from the beach to a lunch bar. Sarongs are also the perfect thing to wear when you want to beat the heat and get away with wearing as little as possible. This cream colored sarong from Monday Swimwear is a great neutral piece that can go with almost anything. If you’re looking for a little more protection from the sun this long shirt from J Crew is a great choice.
Sun hat
Wearing sunscreen and shielding your face from the hot summer sun are two things that are non-negotiable for a beach vacation. I like to pack one sporty option like a baseball cap for hiking or day trips and one classic sun hat for the pool or the beach. I’m still loving the coastal cowgirl look and this option from Lack of Color. In terms of baseball caps I love these hats from Sporty & Rich. They’re functional but still look a little more elevated than your average sports team baseball cap. Anine Bing also has some great ball cap options that I’ve seen a lot of people wearing as well.
If you’re look for more sun hats for summer check out my post on summer hats: Stylish and Protective Sun Hats for Women.
Accessories
When luggage space is at a minimum I try to pack only a few accessories. For a beach vacation the must have accessories for me are a few pieces of jewelry, a small handbag, sunglasses and a beach tote. I went for classic and neutral pieces that you can really wear with anything.
